Ghorepani Poon Hill: common questions

How many days is the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek?

A common itinerary is 4 days starting and finishing at Pokhara. Add buffer time for weather, road conditions and, where relevant, domestic flights.

How high does the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek go?

The highest point on this itinerary is about 3,210 m. Because you sleep above 3,000 m, plan a gradual ascent and treat headache with nausea, dizziness or unusual fatigue as possible acute mountain sickness.

What permits does the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek need?

Licensed guide and agency-issued TIMS are required on the listed Poon Hill–ABC route; conservation-area entry also applies. Check the current Nepal Tourism Board and Department of Immigration pages close to departure, and ask a government-registered agency to name every permit your itinerary requires.

When is the best season for the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek?

October–November and March–May. Winter is colder with snow higher up; the monsoon brings rain, cloud and, on some trails, leeches.

How hard is the Poon Hill trek?

It is one of the more forgiving multi-day treks in Nepal, rated Level 2 here, but the trail is almost entirely stone steps in both directions. Trekking poles and broken-in footwear matter more than raw fitness.

When is the best time for the Poon Hill sunrise?

Clear mornings are most reliable from October to November and March to May, which is also when the trail is busiest. Rhododendron flowering peaks in spring. Treat a cloudy morning as normal rather than a failed trek.
